App won’t start or sign in
What to do when PlayLingo shows “No connection”, “Something went wrong”, “Old data can’t be opened”, asks for an update or can’t sign in.
PlayLingo needs an internet connection to start and load your account. If it doesn’t open, the message on the screen tells you why. Find it below.
“No connection”
“Check your internet connection and try again.”
- Check Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Tap Try Again.
“Something went wrong”
“PlayLingo couldn’t start. Try again.” Tap Try Again. If it keeps happening, close the app completely, open it again, and make sure PlayLingo is up to date.
“Old data can’t be opened”
Data saved by the previous version on this device is damaged and can’t be read.
- Tap Start Over.
- Confirm in Start over?
This only resets PlayLingo on this device. Your account stays on the server — signing in with the same Apple ID brings your words, history and streak back.
“Moving your data”
After some updates PlayLingo moves your progress, history and vocabulary to new storage. Keep the app open until it finishes. If you see “Transfer interrupted”, your data is safe — the transfer continues from where it stopped.
“Update available” or “Update required”
- Update available — a new version with fixes is in the App Store. Tap Update, or Later to keep using the current version.
- Update required — this version is no longer supported. Tap Update PlayLingo and install the new version from the App Store.
Can’t sign in
- Go to Settings → Account and tap Continue with Apple. On first launch, use I already have an account.
- If you see “No internet connection”, check your connection and try again.
- If you see “Couldn’t sign in. Try again.”, try once more. Make sure you’re signed in to your Apple ID in iOS Settings.
If you see “There was no account for this Apple ID. It’s created now”, you signed in with a different Apple ID than before. See Missing words or progress.

Common questions
Will Start Over delete my account?
No. It clears PlayLingo only on this device. If you created an account with Apple, everything in it comes back when you sign in.
Does PlayLingo work offline?
No, it needs a connection to start and to play videos.
