Subtitle appearance
Customise how subtitles look in PlayLingo — colour themes, text size, fonts for subtitles and translation, alignment, width, karaoke cursor and more.
You can change how the subtitles look while watching and see the result right behind the settings.
How to open appearance settings
- Open a video.
- In the side controls on the right, tap Aa (under the mode button).
- Appearance opens. Changes apply immediately.
Theme
Swipe through the theme cards and tap one: Basic, Paper, Sepia, Slate, Forest, Rosé, Solar or Cinema. Each card previews the background, text, translation and cursor colours.
Size
Use Size to make the text bigger or smaller. The translation changes along with it.
Font
Tap Font. There are separate settings for Subtitles and Translation:
- Font — choose a typeface. Among them are Atkinson Hyperlegible, Lexend, Andika and Open Dyslexic, designed for easier reading. For the translation, Match Subtitles uses the same font as the line.
- Font Size — set each size separately.
- Bold Font — for the subtitles.
Text layout
Tap Text Layout:
- Auto — text is aligned by the language’s script (left for English, right for Arabic). Center — both blocks centred.
- Word Spacing — Auto or a fixed value.
- Width — Narrow, Normal or Wide.
- Advanced — exact left, right and top offsets.
Cursor
The cursor follows the words as they’re spoken. Tap Cursor to choose its colour and Kind (Word Frame or Progress), or use the toggle to turn it off. If the row says the cursor isn’t available, these subtitles don’t have word timings.
Other options
- Line Time — show or hide the time above each line.
- Toolbar (iPad) — place the bottom panel on the Left, Center or Right.
- Glass Controls — the toolbar, mode button and messages on glass. Portrait only.
