Practice settings
How to change vocabulary practice in PlayLingo — autoplay audio, listening exercises, smart answer options, words to build and what to practice.
Practice settings change how cards are asked, not when they come back. The schedule stays automatic — see How practice works.
How to open practice settings
- Open the Vocabulary tab.
- On the practice card at the top, tap the gear icon.
During a practice session, the gear is also in the panel under the question card. There, all settings except Practice are available, and changes apply to the card on screen.
Practice
Turn Words, Phrases and Sentences on or off to choose what goes into your practice portions. For example, turn off Sentences to put long lines aside without deleting them. At least one kind stays on.
This setting applies from the next portion, so it isn’t shown during a session.
Assembling
Words to build — how many words of a phrase or sentence you place yourself in the build-from-tiles exercise: 6, 8, 10, 12 or 15 (10 by default). In a longer phrase, the other words are already in place.
Answer options
Smart options — wrong answers you could really confuse with the right one, made by AI. On by default. When they can’t be made, for example offline, the options come from other words in your vocabulary.
Sound
- Autoplay audio — say the word when the card appears. Off by default.
- Listening exercises — cards where you hear the word and choose its meaning. On by default; turn off when you can’t play sound.
Free or Pro
All practice settings are free. On the free plan you get one practice portion a day — see Free and Pro.
Common questions
Can I change how often a word comes back?
Not in settings. You can move a single word to another stage or take it out of practice — see Word status and history.
Can I change the number of cards in a portion?
No. A portion has up to 15 cards. After it, you can continue with More Cards or learn more new words.
