Exercise settings

Every option in Exercise Settings for Build and Speak — lines per session, skipping short or long lines, translation, words per line — with defaults.

Checked September 15, 2026

Exercise Settings control how Build and Speak sessions work: how many lines you do, which lines are used and how each line is shown.

How to open Exercise Settings

  1. In the player, tap the round mode button.
  2. Choose Build or Speak.
  3. Tap the Exercise Settings row that appears in the mode sheet.

The settings apply to the exercise you have selected; some rows appear only for one of them.

Session

Setting Options Default
Lines per session — how many lines one session takes 5, 10, 20 10

Changing it during a session starts a new session with the new size.

Which lines are used

Setting Options Default
Skip lines shorter than 1, 2, 3, 4 words 2
Skip long lines on / off off
Long line from — appears when Skip long lines is on 8, 10, 12, 15, 20 words 12

Skipped lines play without stopping and don’t count toward the session. In Speak you can still record a skipped line — you’ll see “Your settings skip this line — you can still say it”.

How each line is shown

Setting Applies to Default
Show translation — translation visible from the start Build and Speak, separately for each off
Words per line — how many words you build; the rest are filled in (6, 8, 10, 12, 15) Build 10
Speak each word — a placed chip is spoken aloud Build on
Say it out loud — the finished line is read aloud Build in reverse modes on

Show translation appears only when the translation layer is on, and not in reverse modes, where the translation is the line you work with.

Free or Pro

The settings themselves are available to everyone. Build and Speak have free daily lines, then need Pro. See Free and Pro.

Common questions

Why doesn’t my video stop on some lines?

They’re shorter than Skip lines shorter than, or longer than Long line from while Skip long lines is on.

Can I set a session longer than 20 lines?

No, but at the end of a session tap N more lines to start another one right away.

Are there settings for the microphone?

Speak has no separate microphone settings — recording starts when you tap the microphone. Voice and speed are in Microphone and speech recognition.
