Free with daily limitChecked September 15, 2026

Lingo is the AI buddy in PlayLingo. In the chat you can ask about a word or phrase from the video, a whole line, or anything mentioned in it. Lingo answers simply and keeps your level in mind.

How to open the chat

  1. While a video is open, tap the Lingo mascot button — the lowest button in the side controls on the right.
  2. Chat with Lingo opens full screen.
  3. Type your question in the field at the bottom and tap the send arrow.
  4. Tap the close button in the top left corner to go back to the video.

Quick shortcuts

Under the messages there are ready-made requests. Each one disappears after you use it.

  • Explain sentence — shows the line playing right now; tap it for an explanation of that line.
  • Tell more about this video — Lingo tells you about the video you’re watching.
  • How to say in … — puts the start of the question into the field; finish it with your phrase and send.
  • How to read the transcription? — explains how to read pronunciation symbols. See Pronunciation above words.

The lightbulb in the top right corner opens Hints — the tips Lingo has shown you.

Answer language

Lingo answers in your AI Language. By default it follows your native language. To change it, go to Settings → App → AI Language. See Native, translation and AI language.

Free or Pro

The chat works while you have energy for today. When energy runs out, you’ll see “You’re out of energy for today” — energy refills at midnight. With Pro, energy is unlimited. See Energy.

There is also a daily cap on AI requests. If you reach it, you’ll see “Daily limit reached” — translations and explanations work again the next day.

Common questions

Does Lingo know which video I’m watching?

Yes. When you open the chat from the player, Lingo sees the video and the current line, so you can ask “what does this mean?” without copying text.

What’s the difference from tapping a word?

Tapping a word gives a short explanation in context. The chat is for follow-up questions and anything that isn’t a single word. See Word explanations.
