PlayLingo

How practice works

Words you save in PlayLingo come back as flashcards with the video clip, scheduled by FSRS — the spaced-repetition algorithm used in Anki.

Free with daily limitChecked September 15, 2026

A word you met in a video is easier to remember than a word from a list. PlayLingo keeps that link: every card shows the moment from the video where you saved it, and the app decides when you should see it again.

Start practicing

  1. Save words, phrases or sentences while you watch. See Word explanations.
  2. Open the Vocabulary tab. The badge on the tab shows how many cards are ready.
  3. Start a portion and answer each card with Know or Don’t know — or swipe the card.

A daily portion

  • A portion has up to 15 cards: the words due today plus new ones.
  • New words are limited to 10 a day, counted across all your devices, so reviews don’t pile up.
  • Want more? Use Learn N New Words or More Cards.
  • Don’t know brings the card back once at the end of the portion.

How the schedule works

PlayLingo uses FSRS-6, the same algorithm as Anki, aiming to keep 90% of words remembered. Each answer updates when the card comes back: soon if you forgot it, later if you knew it. You don’t need to set anything up.

Card stages

Stage Meaning
New Not practiced yet
Learning You’re still getting it — comes back within days
In review Remembered for 3–21 days
Mastered You consistently remember it for 21+ days

Card types

The app picks the format by stage, so new words get easier tasks and familiar ones harder:

  • choose the meaning;
  • listen and choose the meaning;
  • fill the gap in the sentence;
  • recall the word yourself;
  • flip the card;
  • build the phrase from tiles.

Words you keep missing switch to easier formats, and the summary suggests pausing them.

Settings

Open the settings in practice to change:

  • Autoplay audio;
  • Listening exercises — turn off when you can’t play sound;
  • Smart options — AI-made wrong answers that look plausible;
  • what to practice: words, phrases, sentences.

For a single word you can change its stage, remove it from practice, or reset its history.

Free or Pro

  • One portion a day is free. Practice doesn’t use energy.
  • Pro unlocks unlimited portions. See Free and Pro.

Common questions

Can I export my words to Anki?

Yes, with Pro: Vocabulary → Export creates an Anki deck, a CSV table or a PDF. Anki cards link to the video moments.

Does practice count toward my streak?

Yes. One completed portion counts as a day of learning.

Do my cards sync between devices?

Yes, if you’re signed in: words and their review schedule sync. The detailed log of answers for a day stays on the device where you practiced.
